The Los Angeles Lakers roster currently stands at 14 players, giving Rob Pelinka and the front office room for one more player this offseason. It does not seem like the team is in any rush to fill that last roster spot as they should take their time to make the right decision.
While it might not seem like a big deal with 14 players already signed, the Lakers can add a legitimate rotation player with this final roster spot that can help the title efforts next season. This final addition could be more impactful than the free agents that the Lakers have already brought in this summer.
While anything can happen and more storylines can emerge, as it stands right now, there are four likely options that the Lakers have for that final roster spot. Let’s rank them.
One NBA GM believes that the Los Angeles Lakers are ultimately going to re-sign Carmelo Anthony this summer to rejoin the team next year. While Carmelo is a fan favorite and did play well off the bench last season, he is the worst of the four options.
That is not even to say that Carmelo is a bad option as he would add something to the team that is currently lacking: three-point shooting. However, there is no added potential or ceiling with Carmelo. We know who he is as a player already and that is not going to change much from last season.
This feels like a safety option for the Lakers if they cannot achieve any of the other potential options, which is silly considering the team could easily bring in one of the other four options without any other strings attached.
That leads us to no. 3 on the rankings…
